St Remy de Provence is a lively village along the northern fringe of the Alpilles. Settled on picturesque plains, this is where Van Gogh painted his infamous Starry Night. You’ll also find the birthplace of the ancient astrologer Nostradamus. The core of this Gallo-Roman village is ringed by a 14th-century enclosure made up of a protective wall, buildings and old portes. Interesting boulevards push through the old centre in circles, making the 30-minute stroll a unique experience. The rest of St Remy offers old village shops with Van Gogh influence, the historical Porte du Trou, the dolphin fountain and the 16th century Mairie with an old convent.
